Cox Building Historic Renovation

Project Description

The Cox Building historic renovation is a true example of the dedication of the entire Trace Creek project team; our goal was to ensure that the Cox Building would retain its prominence in the Maysville skyline. After nearly being destroyed by fire in November of 2010, Trace Creek’s construction team and the City of Maysville coordinated and painstakingly worked to preserve the heritage and cultural significance the Cox Building has for the citizens of Maysville.

Due to the severity of the fire, the scope of the restoration was expanded to a full restoration, including nearly all aspects of the building. Trace Creek had to work quickly to complete both the fire damage repair and the entire renovation of the facility, including plumbing, HVAC, flooring, artwork
etc. Because the fire left the building unexpectedly exposed to the elements during harsh winter conditions, Trace Creek took special care to remove and protect the fragile period doors and woodwork, as well as an undamaged portion of a Cox building storefront.

The renovation also added additional functionality to the historic structure, providing facilities for the City of Maysville and the Maysville Community and Technical College Institute of Culinary Arts.

Trace Creek is proud to have provided this award-winning renovation to the City of Maysville for the future enjoyment and continued use for generations to come.
