Fairview Independent High School Renovation & Addition
The project encompasses a 19,000 square foot classroom and administration addition, as well as a major renovation of the existing 16,000 square foot school. The school was constructed in the 1960s with brick veneered CMU and a steel frame-and-joist structure on top of slab on grade.
The new administrative offices and classroom wing will receive a secure entrance and double-height lobby area to seamlessly connect the new and existing buildings. The new structure will be comprised of a steel frame and load-bearing masonry, clad with brick and metal panels. Steel bar joists will support a roof structure comprised of either metal or cementitious wood fiber decking, with a standing seam metal roof. The floor will be slab on grade with a polished finish in most areas. A new central mechanical VAV system with hot water/reheat mechanical capability will be located on the equipment platform.
The existing 6,248 square foot media center and stage will be transitioned into a new media center and science classrooms. Additional masonry partitions will be added to designate classrooms and offices. The existing mechanical units will be used for the media center, while a new mechanical unit will be installed for the classrooms.
An additional 6,742 square feet of existing media center space, classrooms and offices will be transformed into a new kitchen and cafeteria. In the kitchen, old load-bearing masonry walls will be removed and several structural columns will be added. The kitchen will have all new plumbing, electrical and finishes installed.
In the cafeteria, several structural columns will be relocated and two new rooftop mechanical units added. New finishes will be added to complete the cafeteria renovation.
Outside, the new bus drop-off area will receive an upgraded exterior and new finishes. As part of the renovation, the existing 3,030 square foot band building will receive new interior finishes and a new foam roof.
This project also consists of site utility work along the front of the school to bury existing overhead utility lines underground and install additional lines around the site to connect the other utilities.
Throughout the campus, additional paving and site development will occur to create a separate bus/car drop off area, and structure a pedestrian-safe environment.
