Lewis Co. Central Elementary
Project Description
The Lewis County New Central Elementary School project is generally described as a two-story, new educational (PK-6) facility. The building consists of several classrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, cafeteria, gymnasium, computer labs, and a centrally located media center. One of the most pleasing architectural designs of this project is the social stairway located in the heart of the building, which can be used for presentations along with a learning video wall. Structurally speaking, the building is primarily composed of load-bearing masonry walls and structural steel. The exterior finish is a brick veneer wall with cast stone masonry to accent the windows. The roofing system is a standing seam metal roof that in vibrant blue to reflect the school colors. There is an adequate amount of glass curtainwall incorporated into the project to provide natural lighting to help stimulate learning. The mechanical system is a combination of traditional HVAC systems with geothermal capabilities. The building system is fully controllable with the ability to adjust lighting, temperature, etc. in different rooms of the building from within the main database. In addition to the new structure, the existing building had to be demolished to accommodate a new parking lot with site improvements. The site improvements consisted of a completely new parking lot, sidewalks, bus drop-off loop, playgrounds, and site lighting.
