Nicholas County Elementary School
Project Description
Trace Creek was honored to build the new Nicholas County Elementary School in association with G. Scott and Associates Architects, designer of numerous schools around Kentucky. The new building received students for the 2017/2018 school year.
The 75,000-square-foot, two-story school includes administrative offices, classrooms, a media center, a kitchen and cafeteria, a gymnasium with a stage, and an outdoor amphitheater with concrete seating for warm-weather presentations. Large glass panels have been incorporated into the walls of some areas, such as hallways, the music room, and the cafeteria, to allow for more natural light.
The $19.4-million-dollar project also included the construction of new parking lots, sidewalks, and student drop-off areas as well as the demolition of the original Nicholas County Elementary School, located on the same property.
Because the original school was fully operational during construction of the new one, workers were challenged to minimize traffic and noise so students’ daily activities were impacted as little as possible. Limiting distractions was especially important when annual standardized tests were administered.
